The purpose of the technical assistance was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in Bo regional hospital, to evaluate the feasibility of initiating the treatment of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients and to provide recommendations on specific measures to decrease the risk of transmission in hospital context. The following points were especially evaluated: conformity of existing structures for accommodation and treatment of MDR-TB patients, work practices and administrative controls, existing infection prevention and control environmental measures, waste management. Specific and precise recommendations were made in each of these fields. Additionally, the main infection prevention and control measures have also been evaluated in the Lakka Hospital and the Makeni Hospital where MDR-TB patients are currently treated.
